Our British Shorthair and Longhairs
Our British Shorthair cats & British Longhair cats are exclusive and endearing in equal measure. Born with trust, their vividly distinctive eye-catching colour combinations along with their irresistible appeal, make them the most sought after breed we have.
They live, and are brought up, in our loving family home, with our children, dogs, and other pets. We are besotted with them all and devote our time to giving them a fun and varied life.
We breed exclusive colours as you can read about in the articles.
We provide the best quality care with a stimulating environment for your kitten to grow up and thrive in. We have a large enclosed garden with trees, giving them the best secure outdoor environment to roam in during the day. There is also a separated enclosure with pergola and tree branches for the young kittens to explore.
Our young kittens are raised separately from our other animals and have their own quarters until they are weaned. They benefit from a healthy diet of kitten biscuits, cooked fresh chicken, fish, and mince.
We closely follow the British Shorthair cats & British Longhair cats breed standard and our desire is to select endearing kittens for showing with gentile temperament and adorning features. Some of our cats are International Champions while others have secured Champion level, and kittens have consistent Champion titles within their genealogy.
Articles About British Shorthair / Longhair Cats
The British Longhair has the same features as the British Shorthair as they are closely related and share a common history. The semi-long hair coat resulted from the outcrossing of the British Shorthair with the Turkish Angora and later the Persian cats.
For happy groomed cats, start young and make it a relaxing experience, like a mother grooming her kitten. This turns grooming into bonding time. Ours jump on the table when we start grooming and sit around waiting for the tickle of a comb or brush.
I am often asked how these amazing colours are created. In the beginning I had not appreciated how complex cat colours and markings actually are. Over time I collected some great source material to help understand what makes outstanding colours and markings in our cats. Purely focusing on our lines, I've tried to explain it simply and therefore not covering all the variations in the breed.
We specialise in Breeding British Shorthair and British Longhair cats. We breed the delightful shimmer of Shaded, Chinchilla Tipping and Ticked kittens in a beautiful range of specialised colours.

Publications About British Shorthair / Longhair Cats
The gene mutation that causes the distinctive copper colouring in British cats has been discovered by Professor Marie Abitbo of the Université de Lyon.
FIP is a dreadful disease and Belle Ayr has been working with Dr Diane Addie, one of the leading researchers in the subject, in investigating possible causes and treatments of it.
This study provides a useful model for differentiating recovery from chronic coronavirus disease using acute phase protein monitoring.
Dr. Diane Addie, et al, have published a paper on the efficacy of using MutianX to stop the shedding of the FCoV virus.
Belle Ayr was pleased to provide the funding that enabled the publication of this research.
