Ayrshire cattery owner's heartbreak…

The Daily Record interviewed Belle Ayr’s Kristina Macaulay and MSP Siobhian Brown about Pancytopenia.


The owner of an Ayrshire cattery has today spoken of her heartache – after losing one of her little kittens to a deadly disease killing cats all over the country.

Kristina Macauley, who owns Alloway -based Belle Ayr Cats, was stunned after losing nine-month-old Mia to a disease which depletes cats’ white and red blood cells.

Now Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has joined forces with Kristina in an attempt to raise awareness of the disease named feline Pancytopenia.

Kristina said: “I want to raise awareness over this deadly disease.

“Close to 500 cats have been diagnosed with the illness, which causzses depletion of both white and red blood cells, leading to bleeding, anaemia and clotting problems and making them more susceptible to infection.

“Cat owners should look out for fatigue and fever as symptoms.”
